POSITION: Psychiatrist
ENTITY:    Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc.
RESPONSIBLE TO: CEO
SUPERVISED BY: Director of Clinical
INTERRELATIONSHIPS: Maintains open communication lines with the CEO, Director of Clinical, Executive Management Team, clinical staff, physicians, clients and families. Liaisons with community agencies, vendors and payers of health services as assigned.
STATUS: Licensed Practitioner (W2 Employee)
POSITION PURPOSE: The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients. He/she supports the policies and procedures, rules and regulations of the organization.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited Medical School or School of Osteopathic Medicine; is a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible physician. (Child & Adult Psychiatrist)
EXPERIENCE:    A minimum of five year’s experience with Child, Adolescent, and Adult psychiatry
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed to practice medicine (M.D. or D.O.) in the state of practice.

Workplace Environment

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Position is required to work in a temperature controlled environment: 80 - 90% of the time spent indoors.

SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO POSITION: Direct supervision is provided by the Director of Clinical on as needed basis.
PERFORMANCE /PROFICIENCY STANDARDS Performance standards are integrated within the position responsibilities. The principle functions of the position identified shall not be considered as a complete description of all the work requirements and expectations that may be inherent in the position.
COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATIONS In rendering medical services hereunder, Physician will comply with all policies, standards and regulations established by Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc. from time to time, including any and all credentialing requirements, quality assurance, and utilization review procedures imposed or instituted by Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc. and will comply with such standards of professional ethics, and practices, and maintain compliance with all The Joint Commission  standards as may from time to time be applicable to Physician’s field of practice during the term of this Agreement.

Specific Areas of Responsibility to Position

  1. Provides record reviews for the clients scheduled during the clinic day(s), as agreed upon with the Executive Director.
  2. Schedules a one (1) day a week in Indian River County.  Schedules one (1) day a week in Okeechobee County. Schedules two (2) days a week in St. Lucie County.  For the purpose of this Agreement, one (1) day is deemed as ten (10) direct contact hours unless other arrangements have been made (e.g., travel time may be included as part of the ten hour day for Indian River and Okeechobee Counties).
  3. Provides psychiatric oversight of clients, which includes signing off and reviewing admission, treatment updates, and discharge plans as well as general psychiatric informational reviews, psychiatric evaluations, and medication management. 
  4. Interacts with clients, their families, caregivers, Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc. staff and other agencies in a professional manner.
  5. Completes a full DCF/FBI background screening, provides Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc. with copies of necessary medical licenses and professional credentials on a yearly basis.
  6. Provides a yearly copy of Professional Malpractice and Liability Insurance coverage.
  7. Follows acceptable AMA standards of ethical conduct.
  8. Establishes protocol for the medical history screen.
  9. Oversees the client’s medication regime.
  10. Oversees clients determination for physical upon admission.
  11. Attends and participates in meetings with staff as requested by CEO and/or Director of Clinical.
  12. Orders appropriate laboratory tests and/or medical services as needed.
  13. akes recommendations and referrals for special medical care when needed.
  14. Prescribes medications as warranted and provides client and family education. 
  15. Ensures all clients meet admission, continued stay and discharge criteria.
  16. Participates in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  17. Provides on-call and emergency consultation and admission and/or medical/psychiatric transfer orders for clients.
  18. Abides by the privileging and credentialing plan.
  19. Assists in periodic review and revision of policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  20. Provides supervision and ensures psychiatric services to clients within APA guidelines.
  21. Works collaboratively with the CEO, Director  of Clinical, and Executive Management Team.
  22. Expresses ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  23. Serves the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
  24. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
  25. Assists in ensuring State and Federal regulations and The Joint Commission standards are met and maintained.
